Literature Text

In small town in a place unknown to many and inhabited by few a girl once said to the boy she loved “There is nothing for me here. I must get out and find the meaning of my life, it’s purpose.”
Torn between letting her go and wanting her to be happy, the boy said: “Okay. I will wait here for you. When you find your place in the world, come back and take me there with you.”
The girl nodded. “Good bye, Love. I will come back for you, I promise.” She hugged him one last time before turning to leave on her journey.
“And I shall wait here for you, I promise.” The boy said as he watched the girl he loved walk away.
Years passed and the girl traveled to many, many places in search of the one place she could call her own. The one place where she could bring the boy she loved and say to him: “This is where I belong, love.”
And the boy, the one she loved, stayed in that small town still unknown to many and inhabited by few. Every day he would glance out his window to the only road that lead in and out of town, hoping to see the girl he loved returning to him. He never gave up on her, never lost hope.
Then one rather dreary, forlorn day in late spring the boy decided to talk a walk. He must have walked all around that town a good number of times, for by the time that he was wandering back down the street his own house stood upon the sun’s light was weak behind the stormy clouds.
As he approached his house, the boy saw a figure sitting upon the steps before the door. He went forward with caution as the figure stood up and rain began to fall.
Harder and harder the rain seemed to fall with every step the boy took. The rain poured down so forcefully that he could not make out the features of the figure on the steps until he was face to face with it.
She was taller, her hair was shorter. There was a look in her eyes he did not remember from before… but it was she; the girl he loved.
“Have you finally found the place where you belong?” The boy asked, his voice shaking, heart racing.
The girl nodded. “Yes,” she said, “but it is not a place I can take you to.”
The boy swore he could hear his heart breaking. “Why not?”
“Because,’ she said, suddenly moving forward and putting her arms around him, the boy she loved with all her heart. “You are already right here.”
This was originally written for a world literature creative writing assignment, but it eventually just became my own little story, since it wasn't long enough to hand in.

It's meant to be short and simplistic, and it's meant to be read kind of like a children's story book.

The inspiration came after reading "The Wanderer" by Kahlil Gibran (I hope that's how you spell it, lol)
